Hail

Much more like a proper April day really.  Sunshine between mad showers of rain and hail, intermingled with thunderstorms and wind.  Still so cold too.  I went out to pick some spinach this evening and very sadly found two young robin fledglings dead on the grass.. the robin was singing away in the tree above. So sad, I had been watching the parents working so hard feeding their babes... I guess they must have fledged and got caught out in the cold and the hail... and didn't survive. I really hope they have another go at raising a family.  The blue tit is sitting tight on her eggs.. didn't get much of a chance to see them today.. they are deeper in the nest than ever.  What a privilege it is to see them close up in their nest.  I notice the mother does nip out a few times but doesn't go far .. she always stops at the bird food station before nipping off to get some fresh food. Her mate regularly pops (literally) into the box to feed her  throughout the day. Sweet.
