Frenchman's Creek
This is the romantic Cornwall.
The one that Daphne du Maurier wrote about.
In 1941 she wrote an Historical Novel, set in Cornwall in the reign of Charles second. It tells the story of a love afair between an impulsive English lady and a French pirate.
She called the book "Frenchman's Creek"which is an actual place and where we walked to today.
Your imagination can run away with you, as you walk through these old wild woods, along the Helford river. No wonder it insipired Daphne.
It is only a short walk from Helford, (about 3 miles) One of our favourites, especially at this time of year, when you have the place to yourself, except for the bird song, a woodpecker hammering on a tree, and the sound of the rippling water as the tide comes in.
The idea was to walk in the morning, and have luch at the pub, The Shipwrights Arms, on the riverside. However the pub is closed and being refurbished. Beautiful new thatched roof, and completely redone, inside and out.
It closed and went into receivership last year. No one wanted to buy it, and so some local people got together and bought it. Due to reopen in the Spring.
So pl;an B buy something at the little shop.
Closed at 12 o clock!
Eventually found a shop open in St Kevern, and they had 2 pasties left! So lunch sorted( If a little late)
Today has been warm and sunny. Not what we expected!
Off out tonight to a little restaurant in Porthleven.
SeaDrift Cafe Driftwood Cafe see here
Started by a young couple about 2 years ago. She is a photographer, and has photos on display round the cafe. So should be interesting, as well as some good food.
Just watching the surfers out of the window. It has been calm for a few days, but there are some good waves today.
