New Rails
At the Isle of Wight Steam Railway the rails and points at the main station had become in need of replacement and overhall so over the closed Winter period a dedicated gang of railway staff and volunteers have been toiling steadily through all the bad weather to complete the project.
A lot of the materials such as lines fastenings and sleepers are not made any more so have had to be sourced from other Heritage railways. Some specialised items such as points equipment have been made in our own workshops again mainly by volunteers.
The final part of the project is to install a new level crossing into the show field and can be seen towards the top of the picture. After final safety checks and inspection by the UK railway authorities we should be ready to open for the new season towards the end of this month.
