Every Other Week

One of the things I enjoy most about Blipfoto is seeing members' everyday lives, as well as their travels and special occasions, so here is a glimpse of something we do every other Friday morning -- take our three recycling bins, the Food Plus! food scraps and yard waste bin, and the garbage bin to the curb.

The three recycling bins hold scrap paper (white bin), newspaper (red bin), and in the blue bin, glass bottles and jars, food and drink cans, license plates, small scrap metal pieces, and specified kinds of plastic containers and lids. These bins weren't as full as usual today, probably because I was away and fewer things were put into them.

The Food Plus! food scraps and yard waste bin, not shown above (identical in size to the garbage bin), was less than half full, but as the spring comes on and I do some pruning and weeding, that will definitely change. All Food Plus! materials are composted locally and the finished compost is for sale in Whatcom County.

We rarely fill the garbage bin more than halfway, thanks to all the recycling options, and probably should switch to a once monthly pick-up schedule for garbage collection.

Cardboard boxes can also be recycled, but must first be flattened and bundled.

Both Phil and I are grateful to live in a place where recycling is the norm. Sanitary Service Company, Inc., locally owned and operated since 1929, is Whatcom County's largest recycling and garbage collection company, serving more than 45,000 residential and commercial customers.
