In a Big Country

Apart from a few flurries, we’ve barely seen any snow today. One of the advantages of living in the west of the country when the weather comes from the east!
Quite sunny this afternoon so took advantage of the ground being frozen to go a bit off piste for our walk. Rewarded with some glorious views out over Kendal towards the Howgills - which is where all the snow seems to have fallen before it could get to us. And for all we hear about this little island of ours being overcrowded, that still looks like an awful lot of uninhabited country out there!
I was hoping the wind turbines might have shown up better - they were certainly catching the sun and glinting as they revolved. Unfortunately, when you’ve only got an iPhone to hand, the resolution is never going to be that good when said wind turbines are many miles away!
We are very fortunate, living in a place where you can enjoy views like this only a hundred yards from our front door. And where you can walk in pretty much any direction to see similar views, yet still not encounter many other people. Best thing of all is that when travel restrictions are lifted, and the hordes descend on the Lake District - as they surely will, given the quarantine requirements if you travel abroad - they tend to bypass our little part of it completely, so we can continue to enjoy those views in peaceful solitude.
Sadly, I can’t help but think that enjoying walks in the country is going to be our only source of entertainment for some time to come. So the sooner the warm weather comes along, the better!
