Another day, another iris.

Iris histrioides, a good doer in the garden which should be grown more widely.   The flowers are larger than the common Iris reticulata and appear just before the leaves, contrast that with yesterday's Iris histrio where the leaves overtop the flowers.   Today's plant is wild in colder mountain habitats where the flowers appear soon after snow melt, to be followed by the leaves as the weather and conditions improve.   The Turkish and Syrian Iris histrio forms come from less harsh habitats.

My day was mostly about a shopping trip to Aberystwyth where I could also collect a new microwave.  Jamie baked, we distributed buns this afternoon and he also picked up an exercise bike almost gratis through the local FB group .... so a good day.
