Under The Bridge

Mrs C and I had very different goals today. She wanted to get up very early and go down to the river to try and get some photographs of the otters and/or kingfisher. I wanted to go for a run once the day had warmed up a bit.
In the end, we compromised and got up reasonably early (but not at silly o’clock) and went down to the river. Whilst she wandered off in search of wildlife in one direction, I set off in the opposite direction to run what is my usual 5K route, albeit starting and finishing halfway round the “normal” route.
But, by heck, it was cold when I set off! Fortunately the roads were not icy so a reasonable pace could be maintained. Thankfully, it had warmed up a bit by the time I completed the run, so I trotted a bit further up the path to find Mrs C down by the river underneath the footbridge. No otters spotted and only glimpses of the kingfisher. She wanted to stay out so I headed home for a warm shower and breakfast, returning to pick her up later on.
The bridge itself used to be a lot further downstream but in 1990 that crossing was upgraded to take motor traffic. The footbridge was rescued by Kendal Civic Society and relocated to its current site a few years later. Nice to know that something constructed in 1907 is still fulfilling its original purpose over 100 years later.
