A bit of Maine history...

Dear Diary,

I stumbled across an article on the slate quarries in Monson, Maine and thought I would do a post about my old sink.  Many old New England farmhouses had soapstone sinks but I have a slate one made in Monson.  There is a medallion on the front telling me it was from Monson.  The slate deposits were discovered by an immigrant from Wales in 1870 and its discovery brought prosperity to the area.  I've added a photo of some of the men about to descend into the slate pit.  It was taken in the very early 20th century.  It's nice to own a little piece of history.
