A Sheep Hole

This may look like the wall has started to fall down and a hole has appeared but in fact these holes were put into the wall when it was built to allow sheep to pass from one field to another but keep larger animals out. Simple but affective.

I would imagine that they can be found in all areas where there are stone walls but the discovery of a piece of industrial archeology like this, which I had not seen before, really makes my walk a little special for me
