Rose Colored Glasses

Responsible citizens day today. Supermarket trip for the weekly shop and we got everything on the list first time, so no need to go shopping again for seven days. Very quiet in the store. Cashier wondered if it was people finally listening to the “stay at home message” as she said it had been quite busy early in the week but had gone really quiet after the government hints of more restrictions if we didn’t start behaving ourselves. My cynical side thinks it might have had more to do with the totally miserable weather. My very cynical side wondered if perhaps all the second home owners had finally got the message and had gone back to their main homes. Whatever, it was nice to be able to shop without the crowds. Notices were being put up reminding about the need to wear face coverings (and there was also a message to that effect over the tannoy) but I didn’t actually see anyone not wearing one.
I’d like to say we were also being very responsible by only taking a short walk close to home for our exercise today, but the more prosaic truth is that it was so wet and cold that 2K was all we could be bothered with. Spotted this pair of glasses on a wall as we walked round. Looked like they had been there some time so can only assume they’ve either not been missed yet or the person who lost them can’t see well enough without them to go looking for them! Still seems a strange kind of thing to mislay though. If my glasses fell off - or if I took them off and put them down to look at something closely - I’m pretty certain I would miss them after only a few yards of not being able to see where I was going!
But at least they are there to be found. It seems to be a common trait around here that if you see an article on the ground - glove, child’s toy, glasses(!), etc - you pick it up and put it somewhere conspicuous but off the path in the hope that the owner will reclaim it in due course.
In a world where you can be anything - be kind.
