Musclebound

With access to all gym facilities now denied for the foreseeable, its back to working out at home. Slightly better off than in the first lockdown though. We already had an exercise mat and I’ve been able to borrow some 10kg dumbbells off my trainer. I also bought some push up plates and a pair of 2kg dumbbells from eBay. Just needed some exercises to do and my trainer was good enough to draw up a couple of programmes for me. First session completed today and seems to be pitched just right to enable me to keep up the muscle mass until we can go back to training properly.
Went for a walk as well today. Chris Whitty seems to be suggesting that we shouldn’t now be going out for exercise because “it’s not essential”, so it could be indoor workouts only if that becomes an official position. I will concede there were a lot of people out and about, but nothing that made me feel unsafe. Rain and snow forecast for the rest of the week though, so staying in might be the best option anyway!
I do feel there is a bit of a disconnect between what we are being told and what I observe. Tens of thousands of new cases reported each day yet, when I went past the walk in covid test centre today, it was deserted. The staff looked up in anticipation as we approached and seemed almost disappointed when we just strolled on by!
I can only hope that now we are ten days into this third lockdown, it is starting to take effect and cases are beginning to decline. Certainly, anything as a result of mixing at Christmas should have worked its way through by now. I remain optimistic that, if we can get through the next few weeks, then we might actually be in a position to start beating this virus.
