Crow tricks
A real change to the weather today, much warmer, no frost and slightly damp.
Churches are closed so started the day with an online service from my own church. It's on YouTube rather than Zoom.
After that we decided to go for a walk. We joined the promenade at Gypsy Brae and walked along to Granton. On the way we noticed that a crow was tucking into a mussel.
I picked up a couple of nice pebbles on the beach at the wee bay before Granton. I wonder if that is where Caroline Park's oyster beds used to be. There was an interesting old brick construction with a drainage channel underneath, on the banking. It was mirrored on the beach, by a contemporary beach sculpture, see extra. I do wonder what the original was, again, something to do with the oyster beds...?
Walking back I noticed a crow with something in its mouth. It flew to quite a height above the prom then dropped it, came down, inspected it then flew up and dropped it again. This time when it picked it up it flew with it to the sea wall and started to tuck in. Clever bird, I've heard of such things but this is the first time I've seen it happening.
I intend to make a batch of marmalade this afternoon and we have to prepare for the girls coming tomorrow. Shifts and no after school cover in place mean that there is no where for Eilidh tomorrow so we'll pick her up after school then Isobel after nursery. Kathryn thinks it safer to bring them here rather than us to go to their house so that's what we'll do and put them to bed here. Kathryn will come and get them after she finishes work at 10pm and take them home again.
The children are really not having it easy just now.
Stay home and safe everybody.
