Spring is busting out all over!
Arrived in Cornwall!
Weather yesterday in Topsham was zero! (will back blip tomorrrow)
Have never been over Bodmin Moor in the car when it was -2C!
What a good job we brought plenty of warm coats etc.
However when we called at the Harbourside Inn , Charlestown, for our bacon butties, it was a warm 3C!
Refreshed, we drove to Caerhays Castle, the first of many garden visits this holiday.
The sun was trying to shine and it had warmed up to 5C!
This is a favourite place for us both. Partly because my father brought us here when they moved down to Cornwall in 1969. He loved the magnolias and camellias, and we do too.
This is the original home of the world famous x williamsii camellias. They have many of the original plants collected in China by the intrepid plant hunters in the early 1900's which grow happily alongside more modern hybrids bred by the Williams family owners for 153 years.
They are also holders of the National Magnolia Collection.
Not as many out as last year when we came down, but still wonderful to see,
This was one of many photos I took.
Will put some more on my blip folio.blip folio see here
Then on to Porthleven.
We have a lovely cottage. Much better than the photos on the web site.
Wonderful view straight out to sea.
Very warm (most important!) and cosy. Beautiful kitchen/diningroom, and lounge with big windows, looking straight out to sea, and a special little alcove with a
computer desk, and a window looking out to sea as well! Won't want to leave this behind!
To welcome us, there was a lovely Cornish cream tea waiting for us, as well as milk, tea bags etc.
And a vase of Cornish daffs. on the table.
These extra touches make all the difference.
(have a feeling already that we will be back!)
Before I log off I must wish a Very Happy Birthday to Our Special Granddaughter Jennie. see hereand here Hope you are having a wonderful day. Love from us both. xxxxxxxxxxx
