Winter Walk

So much for the "Summer Frock" day!
We went to the RHS gardens at Harlow Carr, Harrogate, and although the temperature was 13c it was dull and a very cold wind. Good job we took gloves,and scarfs.

Had a lovely walk round though.
Bulbs just coming up. Plenty of snowdrops,crocuses,iris,one or two daffs. Still a lot more to come out in a week or two.
This photo is of the winter walk. I chose this because of all the different colours of green, the heathers, just a few snowdrops iris and daffodils, but some lovely colour stems of the dog wood etc. (View in large)

In the background you can see Betty's cafe .
There is also a new Bramall Learning Centre.
One of the greenest, and most energy efficient buildings in the country.
It provides free education facilities for more than 10,000 children every year.

Also in the garden is a memorial to Geoffrey Smith who founded Harlow Carr when he was made superintendent at the age of 26. He stayed for 20 years until he started working for the BBC on many programmes, such as Gardener's World, and Gardener's Question Time. He was a much loved gardener and a true Yorkshire man.
