Saturday Explore

We don't seem to have been far from home for a while so today decided to drive and have a walk somewhere new.  We went along the Aniseed Valley road to the Roding River where there is a low dam that was completed back in the 1941.  There is a 2.68 kilometre pipeline that goes through a tunnel in the hill to the Marsden Valley.  It supplies a third of Nelson City's water needs.  It was a gentle walk beside interesting walls of fractured rock that were exposed when the road was built.  The plants are trying to find footholds to grow in.  The forester waits patiently for the photographer to finish.  I don't like  heights and in the extra you can see the walkway above the dam.  The little side trail was closed so I couldn't get a front on view of the dam.  Back at the car park we had a picnic lunch including the first strawberries of summer.  The first sandflies were also tasting my ankles.
