Carrer de Sants
Carrer de Sants is said to be the longest shopping street in Europe and it's about 20 mins walk away. We've embraced it as part of our walks these months and enjoyed it especially tonight as it was pedestrianised as part of a city scheme to give citizens more outside city space to enjoy. We think and hope that the scheme is a permanent feature and I’m going to do some research to find out if it's the same streets every Saturday or if they change. One of the nice things about this street is that it's mostly made up of smaller shops and not the big chain ones. A positive things about this lockdown carry on is that we've extended our 'barrio' and this street has become one of 'ours'. We found a little shop which was branded as 'products from Brazil' but actually stocked things from all over. We succumbed to a bag of frozen pao de quejo (sorry amandoAlentejo, I know they're easy to make!), salsa picante (spicy sauce), coriander paste and a bag of black beans. Blippers amandoAlentejo and HarryJ both got mentioned in this shop as I spotted the brand of spicy sauce Valentina, that he mentioned the other day! We bought another brand though, as the Valentina bottle was quite big.
Other than this longish walk, I double marked a few assignments, did a bit of housework in our patio room (open plan living room kitchen), Bb did the food shopping, which included two portions of battered fish and chips from our local home made food shop - that made for a very easy heat-up-in-the-oven dinner! Some Grand Designs viewing and then bed, later than usual for us.
This pic isn't great, but I wanted it as a record of the day. It reminded us of the streets in Rio which become pedestrianised over Christmas and new year. Feeling a bit of ‘saudade' for Rio at the moment I fear.
PS: spot Bb!
