Greenfield Schoolhoose

A fairly calm day, with a breeze picking up this evening.  Mostly dull, and showers, drier tonight. 

Another day working in the museum, and a few folk about, including some visitors from Aberdeen.  Headed out walkies with friend Julie this evening, and I had an incident, I fell in a deep ditch.  I got soaked, but not hurt, much to Julie's laughter.  Headed to Laura's after, and warmed up with a cuppa.  Mam and dad popped by tonight.

Continuing granny Lorna's family history research, I've gone down the Thomson side.  Leading up from great granddad Peter Jeremiah Thomson, to 2x great granddad Laurence Thomson.  He was born here at the Schoolhouse in 1848, 9th bairn of 10, to schoolmaster John Thomson.  1851 the family were living at Greenfield, Dunrossness, then in 1861 at Society Schoolhouse, Dunrossness.  He married my 2x great granny Margaret Smith, 3 Feb 1880, at Aithsetter, Cunningsburgh, where they had 11 bairns.  His remaining days were spent as a crofter at Aithsetter, until he passed away in 1929, aged 81.  The extra photo shows the small building to the side of the house, which was the original Schoolhouse, where Laurence was born, you can still see the remains today.  The house is occupied by long life family friend, Hilda Halcrow.  Taken at Greenfield, Cunningsburgh.
