Result!
I've been getting twitchy, just waiting for the results to come in - or be confirmed - from the States, so today was primarily about diversionary tactics: yoga and weights in the morning; a long drive with Dan at lunchtime; and then a few hours messing around with synthesisers and music in the afternoon.
The drive with Dan was great. I can't coach him to pass his test but I can help him get the miles in and to become a more relaxed and confident driver. So we went out to Ingleton, up north through Ribblehead, west to Dent, and then back along the valley to Barbon, which is when I took this photo.
It was a lovely drive but challenging in its own way, not least for the narrow windy lanes and the cobbled streets of Dent, but Dan did really well, especially on the steep hill out of Gawthrop when stalling seemed inevitable (but wasn't).
Then back at home, while the Minx pottered in the garden, I was up in the music room, messing about and consolidating what I'd learnt in college during the week, although I was still looking at my phone every ten minutes and then FINALLY the result: Biden had won the required electoral college votes.
So I went downstairs and we opened the fizz, whilst all checking the various feeds and timelines on our phones, sharing the best bits we found. To be honest, I went from simply feeling relieved at first to being more and more emotional: tearful at everything from watching Harris's call to Biden - “We did it. We did it, Joe” - to the wonderful, uplifting cacophony of car horns and cheering in Brooklyn.
What a result. Thank God!
