Olla clay pot irrigation

Ollas (pronounced oh-ya) are an ancient method of irrigation.

Bury them in soil leaving the top of the neck exposed. Fill the olla with water (or liquid fertiliser). Water seeps out through the porous terracotta.

Over time plant roots wrap around the the olla. The plants take what they need, no under or over watering and evaporation is close to nil.

Mine have sat in storage for ages. This week I've started to measure, space, and bury them in my vege garden.
