Subtractive synthesis

"Today we'll be looking at subtractive synthesis".

Admittedly, that probably won't mean much to many people but it had me rubbing my thighs in anticipation. (I would like to say that I only mean that figuratively but I wouldn't be surprised if I actually did that in practice, no doubt to the alarm of my fellow students.)

And so I spent a delightful six hours, this afternoon, messing with oscillators, filters, noise, feedback, and low frequency oscillators, happily enjoying sound for sound's sake.

One could posit an axis with an emphasis on melody and harmony at one end and a purely sonic experience at the other, and it's at that far end where I'm currently enjoying myself. By way of example, here's a chap who produces music in that area, albeit with some notes and melody: Craven Faults.
