Diary of an Edinburgher

Walkies

Becky came this morning for Archie (Extra) which was great, as we were expecting visitors, and it was best if he was out of the way. No ordinary visitors, they were coming to pick up our daybed. We - or I should say - JR, took a notion to sort out our back room. The daybed has never really been ideal. Our overnight guests will be very pleased to hear this.

This notion was only mentioned yesterday evening. I agreed, and added the daybed to Gumtree to sell. It must have been a ridiculous price because during the evening we had about five replies, and one definite. The chap was a charming Polish man, who arrived with his drill and tool box and he took it all apart in no time.

When Archie came home, we went out with Chrissy for a walk over the Meadows, I was hoping for some sunny autumn shots. But it was cloudy and dull. I was heading for my favourite cafe. We had coffees sitting outside (it was mobbed inside). Then Archie and I came back home and let the other two walk on into town. They are fast walkers, so Archie with his sniffing and piddling, and me with my dead-slow-and-stop meandering, held them up too much.

The sun had now come out and it was a glorious afternoon. We watched some great games of volleyball for ages. Had there been a bench handy, I would have stayed longer. There were ten volleyball nets set up all over the Meadows, with games going on in most of them.

By the time we go to the road, who should we meet but the others! They had walked twice as far as us in the same time.

I was home in time to catch the last half hour of the Women’s Rugby - Scotland v France (a draw). An entertaining game, and NO spitting.

Fish and chips for tea. Archie always likes to come round to the chippie with me, for he always gets a treat.

A splendid day, with things accomplished.
