Diary of an Edinburgher

A Grand Day Out (the last one for a long while)

Yes! Dundee. Specifically, the V&A, Dundee...

What a grand day out we had. We went on the new electric bus service between Edinburgh and Dundee, the first such bus in the UK. Not that the passengers would notice, but I’m sure it’s fun to drive. We were the only ones on the bus! Both ways.

Christine, now known (by us anyway) as Chrissy, came with us. Just as well, as she, in her day, had been a bit of a fashionista too, and so all the Mary Quant stuff was an absolute delight for both of them. They browsed each item at great length, recalling their own fashion hits and misses. Fashion has never been on my radar, even in the 60s, but the exhibition was interesting. There were other exhibitions to look at too, and films.

The highlight (for me anyway) was lunch. The restaurant was a lovely sunny airy space looking out over The Discovery. Check out JR’s dessert (Extra).

Back home on the bus (sure beats driving) on a lovely sunny evening. We picked up Archie, who spent a happy day with Rufus and his mum.

Home just in time for Nicola’s new 7pm deadline for no ‘unnecessary travel’. But really, it won’t make much difference to us - we can still go out, we can go to cafes, we can meet people outside, we can take the dog out, we can go cycling, we can go for drives. We just can’t go raving in the pubs all night. Those days are long past...
