Fire
Officially Autumn today as the fire got turned on in the afternoon in an attempt to combat the cold, wet and miserable day outside.
At least this year, turning the fire on is an option. Last September we had a new boiler installed and upgraded a couple of radiators at the same time. The plan was to have a new fire fitted as well but, for some reason I still don’t fully understand, the old fire was ripped out but we didn’t actually get the new one until March this year.
Which meant last winter was spent relying on the new radiators, thick jumpers and blankets to keep warm. Sod’s Law dictated that when the fire was eventually installed, it coincided with the start of the warm weather we enjoyed throughout lockdown, so it is only now that it has been used in anger.
Very impressed though. A lot warmer than the old fire and a doddle to light. No more grovelling on the floor stabbing at the button and trying to see if the pilot light had ignited!
So, no matter what the weather throws at us this autumn / winter we should be able to keep nice and warm. Which could be handy if we get confined to barracks over Christmas......
P.S. those aren’t dirty marks on the glass / surround you can see in the picture - they’re reflections of things on the other side of the room I just couldn’t eliminate!
