La foresta sacra

These are the towering beech forests at La Verna at 1140m elevation (55m higher than Snowdon). We sort of stumbled across them. At one point we looked up the overhanging cliffs to the sanctuary (extra).

On the way back two young sheepdogs made a cameo appearance (extra). They attend on the upland sheep without shepherds and keep the wolves at bay.
