I like ...
... a good mosaic. Always worth keeping your eyes to the ground. Popular since at least the 3rd millennium BC they are hard wearing and rather beautiful. I have been knocked out by the mosaics in Cirencester (floors), the astonishing gilded ones in the Basilica in Venice (walls) and in Bantry house there is a passable copy of the famous Cave Canem , the original to be seen in Pompeii. I do love these 19/early 20th floor mosaics too, welcoming customers into shops and homes. O Connell's has long since gone but the flooring remains and I appreciated it, the lettering is especially fine.
