Diary of an Edinburgher

Cycling!

Libby came today to take Archie out. She’s been home (in Newcastle) all holidays, and now is back for uni, even though it’s all online (she can’t study at home, she says). He gave her a good welcome, and they set off for a big walk to the Hermitage. Actually, while we were chatting by the gate, Archie suddenly went crazy - Robert had tried to sneak past, but had to come back to acknowledge Archie and stem his hysteria.

Washing was hung out and dried quickly in the breeze. And when Libby came back, Archie had a quick wash and brush, then went to stay with his big pal Hamish. Hamish has a back green so they were out there for a while. I do hope he didn’t disturb Hamish’s parents, who are both working from home.

Once he was gone, we set off for Cramond with the bikes. We had already folded them into the back of the car - and it didn’t seem to be as much of a struggle as it was last time. In fact, we did it no bother, and happened to accidentally wedge the saddle into the roof, then we did it on purpose, which held the bikes very steady, along with my bungee cords. There was no rattling around this time, and if you knew Edinburgh roads, you’d be impressed.

Cramond Walkway is brilliant - very wide, no potholes, no hills, hardly any corners, and not busy at all. We had a half hour ride along to the end, then back again. Which makes it the longest bike ride we’ve had. Mind you, on the way back we were into a head wind, so the motors came in very handy.

At one point I was chased by a pug - just as well I hadn’t seen it running right beside my pedals before it was called off. I was too busy watching another big bouncy dog whose owner thankfully held him as we passed.

We deserved an ice cream at the finish.
