Diary of an Edinburgher

New local cafe

I woke up at 6.30am, but thankfully didn’t have to get up this week - Archie’s day care date has been postponed, because I knew the weather this afternoon looked pathetic, so no use for cycling.

However, as I was lying in bed, browsing Instagram, as you do, I noticed that a new local cafe, which has been a building site for over a year, just opened this morning. Archie and I were keen to check it out. Well - I was. He was keen for some sniffs and piddles on the way.

A lovely smell of coffee as you go in - they built their own roaster in the basement (at great expense I would think). The coffee machine is special too - built in to the counter. And a flat white is under £3 - good.

Archie was to go to crèche tomorrow, but I seem to have double booked him - one of his walkers who is back to uni after the summer holidays wants to take him out and it was booked a couple of weeks ago, after a couple of changes. Sooo... we’re taking up Hamish’s offer of a play date at his house in the afternoon. I just feel we (I) need to get out on the bike before I completely go off the whole idea.

I applied for a new UK passport last night, and had to send them my old passport. Wonder why - JR’s NZ passport didn’t require that. Popped in to the PO on the way to visit Uncle A this afternoon. JR took Archie for a walk.

Christine came for tea tonight. An old favourite - Nigella’s Chicken and Pea Traybake. Yumyum.

You can see where Archie has scratched the door. He’s six and a half years old, and he has not learned how to pull a door open (if it’s slightly ajar) nor yet has he learned to even push it open with his nose. He just stands there until someone opens it for him, but obviously sometimes it’s not opened fast enough.
