High Country under threat

Today we watched a very sobering webinar about the Australian Alps.
 
Anthony Sharwood has written a book that he describes as a love letter to the Alps (From Snow to Ash: the Fight to Save the Australian Alps. Hachette). He describes his walk on the 660km Australian Alps Walking Track, and he makes clear how easily this wonderful, fragile area could be lost. The High Country is under threat from climate change, from feral horses and other introduced animals and this year from horrifying bush fires.
 
The photos are from our trip to the High Country in October 2016. Near Falls Creek, our walking track disappeared under the snow.
