Dawes Arboretum
Thursday
Another cool start to the day, but warming quickly under sunny skies. After an enjoyable breakfast at our B&B, (in solitary state as the only guests!), we drove to Dawes Arboretum. I have been a couple of times before, but the last time was ten years ago. The first time was in 2008 with our two daughters. Jen was still working in Columbus at that time, and Laura was about to graduate from high school, and had finished classes. A lot of water under the bridge since then! Roger was working so wasn’t able to be with us. The second time was two years later, when Roger and I stopped on the way back from a camping trip. The arboretum was displaying a number of wind sculptures by Lyman Whitaker, a renowned kinetic artist, who often takes inspiration for his designs from nature, while hiking in the US or abroad. I found them fascinating and soothing to watch, and could have watched them for ages. We left about 2.30, and stopped for a late lunch/early dinner at Northstar cafe in Columbus. We had to be home to be at church for hand bells practice at 6.15, when we were able to record two pieces to go into one of our streamed church services one week. We had tried last week, but Danny was battling with some new equipment and we’d had to give up and just practice instead.
