Eveleigh Railway Workshops Mosaic

It was only after I stood outside Erskineville station looking at the city skyline that I noticed the mosaic at my feet. It commemorates the railway workshops just north of here that operated for over 100 years, employed thousands of people and still cover a huge area.

A couple of years ago there was an exhibition at Carriageworks about the Great Strike of 1917 which started at Eveleigh.

Workshop tools are set into the mosaic, and stylised in the railings, but they’re easily missed.
