Mucklaberry Castle
A day of stunning sunshine, really warm and fairly calm. Lovely evening too.
A shock when I woke this morning, my horrid neighbour had smashed bottles on our path, and yelling abuse around his garden. After the ordeal was dealt with, a run in the boat to get stress levels back down again. Big Brian and Madeline popped by this evening, and later mam came for a cuppa too. Feet up now.
The boat trip ended up taking us to Vaila Isle. It's been a few years since I was last there. A population once at 29 in 1846, down to 9 in 1961, and now only 2, it's a quiet place. The old Haa was extended in 1895, making it the largest country home in Shetland, seen in the distance, and then here the ancient watch tower. Named Mucklaberry Castle, it was originally built in the 17th century, and restored in the 1890s by the Anderton family. It makes a wonderful place to visit, and good for a photo or two.
