Comical birds

Pigeons make me laugh, they are so comical. There are always at least one pair in the garden. They flutter round each other and rummage around under the bird feeder, all the time cooing their familiar tune, which my grandmother translated as “my toe bleeds, Betty”. Now I wonder where that came from? My grandmother was a countrywoman from The Chilterns.
On this hot day I have taken it very easy, sitting in the coolest room of the house, reading, and sewing hexagons for Jake’s cushion cover.
