Re-visit 2

Hardly a difficult revisit to one of the Eden Benchmark sculptures, as this is just down in Appleby. It is in the area known as Bongate on the other side of the bridge from the main town centre and close to the mill and the weir I was blipping a few weeks ago. 

Primrose Stone was shaped from a nine ton block of St Bees Sandstone and is obviously based on the head of the flower, although there are also references to the Appleby coat of arms and to the millstones linked to the nearby Bongate Mill. It is a rather cleverly designed seat, a bit like a rounded sofa. 

Sadly, whether it was meant originally to enable the sitter to watch the river, it certainly does not allow that now. The extra photo shows the problem. The vegetation in front of the seat has grown to such a height that the only sight of the river is a glimpse by the bridge. One can certainly hear the water though, as it goes over two weirs. Primrose Stone is wearing well and becoming a part of the landscape of this popular area by the river.
