A door

The search for the cheapest Premier Inn, in a suitable place to break our journey when travelling from the south, takes us to some interesting places. We are now in Gloucestershire, near Tewksbury. The idea was that we would arrive this afternoon and go and explore a bit of Tewksbury, of which place the only knowledge I have is the Abbey appearing to float above floods. However, things didn’t quite turn out as planned, as there was a vehicle fire on the M5, which closed the motorway and led to a long wait before we were taken off. Fortunately this was our turn and we were soon able to leave behind the queues of traffic trying to make their way back to the M5 further on. So we were much later than expected and don’t feel like going out again in the car.

So, my blip is a door. But a special door. (It might have been a good idea to move the towel from behind the door before I took the photo!)

Our daughter and her husband have gradually done so much to their cottage that it is now totally transformed from what it was when we first saw it nearly two years ago. The changes they have made have been thoughtfully planned and they have employed highly skilled workers. This door is a good example. The stained glass was already in the bathroom door and they liked it, but the door itself did not fit properly and was not in a good state. They managed to find a suitable old door at a reclamation and salvage yard in Penzance called ‘Shiver Me Timbers’, where Joanne went with her dad on our last visit. Then a joiner they know very cleverly took the glass out of the old door and out it into the new/old door and altered the door so it fit the opening perfectly. A beautiful piece of highly skilled work.
