Structure

Maybe I've been reading about art too much which is why I thought this might be some sort of sculpture. Instead, it looks like it is equipment related to a housing development in the valley below - a pumping station or similar.

I've always enjoyed the work of Roy Lichtenstein and visited an exhibition of his work at the Tate Modern in London about seven years ago (where, of course, photography was forbidden).  He is famous for his works based on cartoons and advertisements. It is said that his preoccupation with these subjects began when, in the early 1960s, one of his children pointed to a comic strip and said "I bet you can't paint as good as that."

Anxious Girl  (1964) is a good example of his work - an "all-American" blue-eyed blonde painted in thick black lines, subtle dots and simple shapes in primary colours.  Seeing his paintings close-up is most rewarding for the sense of abstraction becoming a very clear image.
