The Mighty Oak
Another busy day [Sunday], this time at the house at Liss, cleaning and helping Andy install a new fence post and panel. All long overdue jobs and so it felt good to get them done. We returned home mid-afternoon and after a snack, I popped to the allotment for an hour. I spent the time weeding and watering. At this time of year I can barely keep on top of the vegetation growth and the lack of rains means watering is a regular chore too.
We decided to try a different routine with Merlin's afternoon and evening walks today. He has been a bit naughty on his evening walks and we think it is because he is hungry. So today he had a short lead walk before his dinner, then later in the evening, we took him for a longer off-lead walk over in the field. It worked well so will try it again tomorrow.
As we left the field we stood and listened to the bird song near to the large oak tree at the entrance to the field (pictured). It really was magical - thrushes, blackbirds, chaffinches, goldfinches, robins, willow warblers, stonechats and many more. A beautiful way to end the day.
