Woody Wednesday (Wednesday 13th May 2020)

Until Mrs T appeared in the living room on Tuesday evening, my blip for the day was going to be of a spectacular clematis flower on the woodland garden arch that I'd taken on my LX-100. As I hadn't used it I took a new shot of it yesterday, which, as it was Woody Wednesday, is probably more fitting, as Refna was with me putting in three hours of socially distancing Hot Diggity Gardening as I did weeding and odd jobs in support.

So much better resolution in Large (Gallery) view

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Booker T and MGs - When Something Is Wrong With My Baby (recorded 1967-1968, Stax Recording Studios, Memphis TN)
Booker T and the MGs: Booker T Jones (org), Steve Cropper (gtr), Donald "Duck" Dunn (bass), Al Jackson Jr (dr, perc)
Stax staff writers Isaac Hayes and David Porter wrote this slow burner that was first recorded in neighbouring Muscle Shoals FAME studios by country singer Charlie Rich in October 1966. His version stayed in the can and Stax duo Sam and Dave recorded it a month later and released it on a single in February 1967, backed by Stax house band Booker T and the MGs.
The Spotlight Kid and I saw Sam and Dave and Booker T and the MGs perform this very song as a highlight of their stage act on The Hit The Road Stax 1967 tour when they were second on the bill to Otis Redding; something we discussed on the telephone on this afternoon.
It isn't known exactly when they recorded this immaculate version, but it was probably done for fun in studio downtime after they'd been backing some other Stax artist, and left on the tape reel for posterity. Twenty-five of these were collected by the team at Ace Records for a 1995 compilation called Booker T And The MGs Play The Hip Hits, the last unplayed CD in my collection and a very recent acquisition.

Shamefully ignored by whoever was hosting that week. The much missed Smokey.
