Young shag - but which sort?
Not sure who was the most surprised when I walked out onto a neighbours jetty, and this young shag was sitting there. Managed to get a couple of shots before it flew away.
Does anyone know what sort it is? I thought maybe a Spotted Shag, but they are supposed to have green around their eyes. Or it a young Pied Shag? as we have them in the area.
My blip was going to be a Bellbird, which my Other Half spotted sitting in the manuka tree just off the deck. But.... and later we were in the garden, & I heard it singing again. Next thing I knew it was flying straight at my head. I ducked down, as I wasn't counting on it not hitting me. Only known Magpies & Kingfishers to do this before.
