Distanced

Man, it was hot, today. Dan and I had planned to do our slightly longer Saturday walk at four o'clock but in the end we left it until five when it was a little cooler. Dressed in shorts and walking boots, I wondered if I might at some point draw the attention of the fabled Kirkby Lonsdale Vigilantes, the local group of curtain twitchers who go out looking for strangers, but once again they were nowhere to be seen. Slackers.

We walked up through Low Biggins and then took Hosticle Lane down to Whittington. From here you can take a footpath through some fields to the Lune, and then follow the river back up to Devil's Bridge. It was a gorgeous walk.

We saw this fellow on the river, practically begging to be added to my compendium of disastrous wildlife photographs. It was hard to tell from this distance whether he was an avian outcast or simply being dutiful in his observation of social distancing. Either way, he was enjoying a very through graze of the river bed.

A little further along from here there is a bridge where some large utility pipes cross the river and we sat on a wall here to have a small beer each and to enjoy the view (see extra).
