Storms in Barcelona

Back blip

They started during the night and were so bad that Bb got up and went onto our roof terrace to see how things were and to check that things were safe and not flying about, drains were open etc.   Not good!  He warned me in the morning to be prepared when I went up to have a look and I'm glad he did.  The thick wooden posts which had been attached to the metal frame which holds our bamboo dividers all around the back section (3 sides) had been yanked off by the wind catching the bamboo.  Our sunshade covering of the whole of that part had also been torn off and is in shreds.  The furniture had all been blown over, plant pots blown around and a few broken, decorative tiles that the plants sat on had been broken and one plant which had been climbing up the bamboo no longer does!  Even a brass lamp fitting had been pulled off the wall by getting tangled in a section of bamboo divider.  I spent a few minutes making sure everything was safe and had to leave it like that as the gales were still howling and it was bucketing.   This continued off and on all day and into the night.

We could hear sirens all day and I got emergency alerts on my phone.  Trees were blown down.  People were injured from things blown off buildings and terraces and falling trees.  Parks were closed.

Bb had a cooking team building session at night and I hoped it would be cancelled, but no, it went ahead.  He had to take a taxi there and got a lift back to near our house.  The only time I ventured out the door, apart from to clean up leaves from our drains to make sure we didn't get flooded, was to meet him at night 5 mins up the road as I needed a bit of fresh air and we shared a couple of tapas.

The damage done to our roof terrace is too much for us to repair ourselves and so we'll have to make do for while.  Weather around the world seems to be going mad and what we experienced is nothing compared to what others have gone through or are going through.

I couldn't bear to put a photo of the mess of our terrace so here's a shot of our patio from inside.  The patio is a bit messed up, but not damaged as it's sheltered.  Thank goodness.
