Moorfoot Hills

A short ride today as rain is expected from midday onwards. I opt for a quick spin around Midlothian, dipping a toe into the Scottish Borders.

It starts off nice and sunny. Out along the Seafield Moor Road to Auchendinny, and up to the Top Gear road, B6372. I decide to follow that to Temple, then decide where to go from there. However, just before reaching the bridge, my GPS turns itself off. I work out later that a software update set the brightness on the display to 70%, so the battery gave out.

From Braidwood Bridge I use my watch to track my ride. I cycle through Castleton, and then past Outerston to Howburn Wood. I stop there, a highpoint on my ride to take a photo of the Moorfoot Hills the other side of Gladhouse. I carry on, passing Gladhouse Reservoir to the A703. I can see to the south that the rain is closing in, so I take the Shiplaw road to Whim. A few spits and spots, nothing heavy. I follow the A701 and A6094 to Howgate, then the B road down  to Auchendinny, and up the Brae. Earlier than expected, I add to the distance by heading for Roslin and the cyclepath through Load head to Lasswade Road. It is getting rather dull now. I head along Lasswade Road to head home along the Braid Hills Road. A total of 70.5 km, about 39 miles.

No Relive as its too difficult to join the 2 rides up

A bit wet in the afternoon, so my partner and I head down to Morningside. A bit dreich and cold. Not much to photograph. The Pentland Hills seems to have gone missing. The rain does ease off, and we head down to Tollcross. From Bruntsfield, the castle can just be made out through the low cloud.
