Life through the lens...

By ValC

The song of the sea.

A drizzly morning, and so had lazy time. Mr C watching the rugby on TV.
After another excellent Sunday lunch at the Fire Engine Pub, Marazion, the sun returned and we had a walk down to Prussia Cove.
Known for the 18th century ship- wrecker and smuggler John Carter, also known as the “ King of Prussia “.
Another favourite spot. Walked along the coastal path both ways. Watched the guys surfing ( extra)
Sat on the beach just watching the sea. The waves pounding the rocks.Al the sights and sounds we love. The sea colours of green and blue, and sparking in the bright sunlight.

Extra is one of the spars from HMS Warspite, which stands as a memorial to this ship which ran aground off this point, in 1947 when being towed to the breakers yard.
Eventually ended up on Marazion beach where the job of blasting and cutting her apart continued for the next 7 years.

My last extra is the corner of the house which overlooks the cove, and was where they filmed “ Ladies in Lavender”. One of my favourite films.

Last night we braved the elements for the music of the Marazion Apollo Male Voice Choir, and guest choir Hereford Police MVC.
Oh what a great uplifting evening.
Such a varied collection of music.
We had songs from the shows, including Les Miserable. Songs from the Welsh valleys, and a medley of Tom Jones hits.
A beautiful lullaby from New Zealand, and the ever favourite Nessun Dorma.
We all joined in the sea shanty, “ What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor “
The rousing finish was “ There is nothing like a Dame!”
What a fabulous evening.
The choir started in 1904. The oldest member singing last night was 90 + and he has been in the choir over 70 years. An amazing gentleman.
Many thanks to the Choir and their musical director Kate Wood - Cattran and accompanist
Stella Pendrous, and to Carol and Graham for taking us.
