You're not going to believe this ...

Yesterday was a good day. It included a trip to the bottle bank where bags of sin were sent crashing to their next life. Afterwards, we went for a significant walk around the golf course. We all enjoyed it.

The second part of the walk was recorded by a little app on my iPhone. It told us how far we had come, the average speed we took, our height above sea level and all sorts of fascinating things. It tracked our walk on a map which I was able to show Ellen as we got back to the car.

I put the phone on the roof of the car to continue our conversation and slipped my jacket into the back seat. The conversation changed. I got into the car and we drove off.

Later that night, I looked for my iphone. As all the usual search places were replaced by some less usual, I reconstructed events of earlier that day. An action was missing. I could not recall taking the phone from the car roof. Everything else was perfectly clear apart from that simple act. Maybe it didn't happen. Almost certainly it didn't happen.

We phoned my phone. It rang. Somewhere in the dark 3 miles of South Lanarkshire countryside between the bottle bank and home, it was ringing. Eventually, it offered to record a message. It did that several times. A search was planned.

Then I recalled an app on the ipad, 'Find my iPhone'. One of about two dozen which I loaded and promptly forgot about. I wonder .....

The app was fired up and it placed a small but significant green dot on the map. It couldn't be, could it?

And that's where I found it this morning. Clearly the worse for wear while retaining all functionality.

Now, where's that insurance policy.....
