Diary of an Edinburgher

Another dog-less day

Archie set off on another adventure this morning. Yes - we're trying out a new sitter, and what a bonus - she's just a few doors down the road.

To take advantage of our dog-less day (we seem to be having a lot of them at the mo), we set off for lunch down in Leith, at my favourite - Toast. Oh look, the bus stop is just beside the little French cafe... bonus coffee.

Not so good: It took us two hours to get across town to the destination. This was because I assured JR I knew which bus took us right to the door. Only it didn’t. Wrong number. So we had to come back into town and take the correct bus... *sigh*

However, it was worth it. JR declared her sourdough toast with avocado and two poached eggs to be the best ever. Correct bus back to town.

In fact, we then popped in to the cinema to see The Lion King, as we didn’t have to rush home for wee Archie. BUT... there were about 50 school kids all ready to go in as well. They weren’t a problem, though. The problem was a rather large woman and her young son beside us. She bought a humungous box of popcorn, and proceeded to eat most of it. Then she took out a huge bag of crisps and munched through them. Then she took out a packet of chocolates. In between times she checked her phone. I had to move to the other side of JR for some slight relief.

I wasn’t keen on the very loud musical interludes, except for the brilliant scene with the warthog and meerkat singing 'The lion sleeps tonight'. But the CGI was totally amazing, I could almost forget the fat slightly rather overweight woman constantly and noisily stuffing her face nearby.

On the way home, we spotted Bert and Brian (our neighbouring schnauzers) and their mum and dad. They've just had major renovations done, so we popped in to see what's been done, as we've been dying to see it.

A good day out. We've had a photo of Archie settled on the sofa with his new friends. All good.
