Brown Bear

The only bears we have seen at close quarters were in the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center at Portage. They looked a bit sad despite a generously large enclosure. There were three bears rescued from various calamaties but, once accustomed to humans, they can't safely be released into the wild or allowed to breed, as the young have to be brought-up to fend for themselves in the wild and then sent away by their mothers at four years of age..

There were also some lovely Elk, MuskoxSitka and Caribou..

We are now in Anchorage for our final night in Alaska, which is now my favourite US State. I must mention the White Spot Cafe, recommended to us by an Uber driver when we were here a week ago.  Their "famous halibut sandwich" is rightly famous.
