Sunset At the End of a Full and Wonderful Day
Mr S and I took a splendid hike up river from the campground. It's my favorite walk--meandering along the water, climbing boulders, seeing our favorite landmarks and the mountains in the distance. The sun never really came out, and the threat of rain hung over us, but didn't, ahem, dampen our delight in the day.
Just this side of camp we spent quite a while watching a marmot. I've never figured out what's so wonderful about watching an animal in the woods, especially a rodent, but it always seems like such a gift to see a creature in its habitat. This guy would slither down the rock and tear up the plants at the base; it was too far for me to see exactly what he was eating, but he ate a lot of it. Every once in awhile he'd run back up on the rock to check for intruders. We were across the river and he didn't seem to care.
