Eccles

I had a little trip down memory lane today. Pat and I went to Eccles to have a wander around and I took my camera, of course. I have decided on a new project this year, to take photos of buildings, places and anything else that has played a part in my life, especially from childhood. I've started a list that includes: houses I lived in, church where I went to brownies, tree I loved to climb, baths I had swimming lessons in and the hall where I had ballet classes. Some of the places will have gone or changed, but I will still take a photo to show where something once was.

Dad took hundreds of photos around Eccles, especially in the 1960s, and his photos were used in exhibitions. He created an historical record of the changing face of a town that was split in two with the building of the M602 and the M62.

This is a photo of the walkway across the M602. On a Saturday I would walk across it to Eccles from my grandparents house, where we always went for lunch, and have a wander round the shops.

Eccles has changed drastically since those days though, many shops have gone, the market was knocked down and the bus station built in place. There were a lot of 'colourful' characters about so we could do some 'very strange' people watching.

We walked about saying....do you remember this place or that, or what did this place use to be? My list was growing as we walked about so I think I will be going back soon to take many more photos.
