Robin Hoods Bay
Saturday
Today was a showery day, but fortunately the showers were for the most part very short, and in between there were occasionally glimpses of sunshine. This led at times to beautiful light effects, as in the top view of my collage. We drove to the car park above Boggle Hole, a little cove formerly used by smugglers. When the tide is low you can walk along the beach to Robin Hoods Bay. The tide wasn’t fully out yet, so it was still a bit wet in places, but we managed to pick our way through. While we were walking, we had the first of the frequent showers, it’s a great beach for kids, with little rock pools to explore, and it’s also a great place for fossil hunting. We wandered around the narrow streets and alleys of the town, walking up the extremely steep road to see the view from the top, then back down and stopped for a snack in a cafe before returning to Boggle Hole along the Cleveland Way.
We then drove away from the coast up to the moorland village of Goathland, otherwise known as 'Aidensfield' in the television series 'Heartbeat' and its railway station featuring in the 'Harry Potter' films. As we were driving there, we could see threatening clouds ahead over the moors. These proved to be the heaviest showers of the day, so we did shelter in the car for a few minutes, before heading to the closest tea room! Laura and I then walked back to the railway station to take some pictures before we returned to our B&B
