Fife Day Three
Another lovely day in Fife! We were booked in for lunch at the No 1 Scottish Restaurant of 2019 - The Seafood Risorante overlooking the West Sands in St Andrews. More of this later...
First we popped in to the Balgove Larder for breakfast. JR had two large bowls, one filled with granola, the other filled with yoghurt and fresh fruit. I made do with a scone, and didn’t even choose the clotted cream option. But it was a large scone...
Then on to the next meal - we tried to find a park in St Andrews. The car park we had yesterday was full. Street parking, if you could any, was two hour maximum. We were beginnng to get a bit frazzled. Then we found a park. And it was free!
The meal was delicious. We both chose the hand dived Orkney Scallops with white asparagus. We then shared a whole sea bream baked in a salt crust, with Jersey Royals, and a fennel salad. Wonderful.
Then we had a wee tootle about Fife round the coast to Crail. Love that wee place, though it seems that the tide is always out when we visit. The wee tearoom looking out over the sea was mobbed, so we sat in the harbour and had an ice cream. There's a little hut (you can see it in the bottom left shot) that always has a notice - 'Fresh Lobsters - cooked while you wait', but is shut any time we've been there. But today it was OPEN! And there were several large lobbies swimming around in the tank beside the hut. The many picnic tables around the harbour were filled with folk finishing off their meal. Oh, I wish we'd known! I think this wee hut could give the 'Number 1 Scottish Restaurant of 2019' a run for its money.
More culture tomorrow. But I don’t think we'll escape the horrendous weather coming everybody's way.
