Faversham Creek and Nagden Marshes

Passed 1000 miles for the year today, 6th consecutive year we’ve completed the Country Walking Magazine’s Walk 1000 Miles Challenge and the earliest completion date. In our first year, 2014, we passed 1000 in mid December!

It’s our 17th wedding anniversary today, so a good day to complete the walking milestone. The magic number clicked over as we passed by the Seasalter Sailing Club on a long walk between Faversham and Whitstable. It was a glorious day to be walking the North Kent Coastal Marshes. Tremendous views over the Swale to the Isle of Sheppey.

We sat for lunch with our backs resting on the sea wall looking south over the marshes trying to identify the wildlife passing by. We walked through swathes of white umbellifer flowers which clothed the sea wall bank. They were amazing, 200 or 300 yards of swaying, bobbing flower heads alive with myriads of insects.

Hardly a soul about for most of the walk, not until we neared Whitstable did more people appear. We stopped at a cafe in a caravan park for a very welcome and much needed cup of tea served as it should be in a proper teapot, with cups and saucers and a jug of hot water.

We caught the train from Whitstable back to Faversham, completing the return in 8 minutes rather than the 5 hours it took to walk!
